Crystals & Stars

The subject of Birthstones is an intrisinc part of ancient Hebrew astrology. Rabbi Bachya Ibn-Paquda stated (Exodus 28) , ‘There is no precious gem that does not draw Divine powers from the upper spheres’. The Midrash (Bereishit Rabba 14) states that ‘when rain falls everything is blessed …even the precious stones receive powers from above’. The planets, fixed stars and degrees on the zodiac, each have a specific birthstone. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birthstones

American Rockhound George Frederick Kunz (1913) writes: The magi, the wise men, the seers, the astrologers of the ages gone by found much in the matter of gems that we have nearly come to forgetting. With them each gem possessed certain planetary attractions peculiar to itself, certain affinities with the various virtues, and a zodiacal concordance with the seasons of the year. Moreover, these early sages were firm believers in the influence of gems in one’s nativity, that the evil in the world could be kept from contaminating a child properly protected by wearing the appropriate talismanic, natal, and zodiacal gems.

Astrologer and Crystal Healer Marina Costelloe has published a book in which she presents a different birthstone for each degree on the zodiac wheel: a total of 360 birthstones for the 360 degrees on the zodiac wheel. http://www.crystalastrology.com/

Marina Costelloe distinguishes between the birthstone for “Karmic Condition”, the “Focus” birthstone and the “Quest” birthstone. One degree before the specific planetary placement is the degree of a native’s “Karmic Condition”. The actual degree of the specific planetary placement is the degree of a native’s “Focus”. And one degree after the specific planetary placement is the degree of a native’s “Quest”. The sun moves at a speed of one degree a day on the zodiac wheel. Each Hebrew date is defined by the Torah in terms of the actual date, the Eve of that specific date (“Erev HaYom”) and the day following that specific date (“Motzei HaYom”).

I, myself am an Astrologer and Crystal Healer and I have for many years researched this subject. Essentially I agree with Marina Costelloe’s approach although I do disagree about a number of birthstones she recommends for certain degrees on the zodiac wheel. I have prepared a WORD file with a list of birthstones I recommend in place of some birthstones listed by Marina Costelloe.

Each Planet and Fixed Star have a corresponding gemstone, the so-called birthstone of that planet, that vibrates the planet’s energies. Each birthstone serves as a protective talisman against the malefic influences of its corresponding planet as well as a lucky talisman for enhancing the good influences of that planet. Medieval astrologers had a list of 15 fixed Stars with their respective gemstones and medicinal plants used as talismans for protection against the negative influences of these fixed Stars.

These 15 fixed Stars are known as the Behenian Fixed Stars: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Behenian_fixed_star

For example, the lucky stone for Fixed Star Spica (23°50′ Libra) is the Emerald. However Marina Costelloe prescribes the Emerald for 22-23 degrees Taurus. I therefore recommend Cinnabar as the birthstone for 22-23 degrees Taurus instead of the Emerald. On the other hand, I take the Emerald as the lucky stone for Behenian Fixed Star Spica and I recommend Stichtite as the birthstone for 23-24 degrees Libra.

Also I only prescribe natural and untreated gemstones for each degree on the Zodiac Wheel. For example, Marina Costelloe prescribes for 28-29 degrees Leo the Aqua Aura which is a natural crystal that has been coated with gold fumes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aqua_aura). According to traditional Hebrew Astronomy the Sun is at 28 degrees Leo on the 28th of Av. On the 28th of Av the 390 days of Yechezkel’s confinement ended and he was ready to receive a new prophecy (cf. Yechezkel, chapter 4). Based on the energies of the 28th of Av, I recommend Almandine Garnet as the lucky stone for this degree on the Zodiac Wheel.

I hope to publish here a series of articles on this vast subject, Please God. I invite customers to give me their birthdata for analysing their birthcharts in respect to their personal birthstones.
